Tommy Bolic, medical illustrator, has sport experience as both a top athlete and coach and has more than 10 years of experience teaching on the topic of sports injuries. He has been a medical illustrator for over 30 years, and his work includes Sports Injuries: Their Prevention and Treatment, by Peterson and RenstrĦm. This work has been translated into 10 languages and is the best-selling book on the topic.

“One of the most striking features of the text is its illustration program, in particular, the highly effective color diagrams of the pathoanatomical relationships in injury of various joints and parts of the body. These are certainly among the best illustrations of this sort of material on which comprehension relies heavily on the ability to visualize what is occurring under the surface.”

"This is the book you want to pull off the shelf with the patient in the next room, review the illustrations, re-read the short, pointed description of the injury and consider the subsequent treatment options. This will give the practitioner the confidence needed to care for the problem at hand, contemplate further tests, consider a Physical Therapy consult or perhaps even an Orthopaedic specialty evaluation.”

Daniel F. O'Neill, MD

Director, New Hampshire Knee Center

“The key for most of us when learning new material and committing it to memory is combining the words with visual images. In this book the illustrator, Tommy Bolic, is able to combine anatomic drawings supplemented, where appropriate, with x-rays and photos to allow the reader to absorb information efficiently and painlessly. As a result, this is an especially helpful book for anyone trying to understand sports injuries for the first time.”
